I have been teaching lessons, workshops, and masterclasses in numerous countries and am a big advocat of the importance and benefits of a solid and comprehensive education in music and language. Research teams exploring the links between music and intelligence report that music training is far superior to computer instruction in enhancing people's abstract reasoning skills, the skills necessary for learning maths and science. Music helps with the development of self-esteem and critical thinking skills and it teaches cooperation, leadership, and many other personal development skills. Music can help to keep kids out of trouble and it gives a sense of community. Music can also be an emotionally rewarding, interpretive, and enlightening activity. Musicians have the opportunity to get to know themselves and each other through the music they play.
